This article includes best practices for scheduling your first Psychiatry appointment, follow-up appointments, and rescheduling or canceling an appointment. It also provides you with additional important information you should read before your first appointment!
Scheduling your first appointment
Interested in getting started with psychiatry? Rula’s licensed providers will work with you to create a comprehensive care plan tailored to your needs.
To request an intake appointment, please complete Rula’s psychiatry registration form. Note: If you’re an existing Rula patient, we recommend requesting a psychiatry referral from your therapist.
Once we’ve verified your details and insurance coverage, you’ll be scheduled for an initial intake appointment. During this appointment, you’ll have an opportunity to review any specific questions or concerns with your provider and discuss your personalized treatment plan.
Follow-up appointments
Once you’ve completed your initial intake appointment, you’ll work with your provider to schedule regular follow-up visits. These appointments provide an opportunity for you and your provider to discuss your response to medications and make any necessary adjustments.
Typically, you’ll need to meet with your provider every 1-3 months, but the frequency will vary depending on your care plan.
Outside of what you and your provider set up, you can schedule follow-up appointments directly in the Rula patient portal.
Rescheduling or canceling an appointment
In the event that you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment, you can self-serve this request in the Rula patient portal. If you need additional assistance, please call us at 323-205-7088 (press "2", then "2" again) or email psychsupport@rula.com.
As a reminder, cancellations within 24 hours of your appointment or no-shows are subject to a $150 fee.
Other important information
- Appointments are virtual and will be conducted over a secure, confidential video call. Please download the Zoom app prior to your appointment on the device you’ll be using.
- Note that you must be physically located in the state you registered with Rula. Please ensure you’re in a quiet, private area and that we cannot conduct appointments while you are driving.
- If you are managing care for a minor, you must be present for their initial appointment and any follow-up appointments discussing changes to their medications.
