The Rula mobile app is your place to stay connected to your care between therapy sessions. It brings together your appointments, takeaways from your sessions, helpful resources, and support in the moment — all in one place, so it's easier to continue the work you're doing with your therapist. Here's a quick tour of how it all fits together.
Currently, access to the app is being opened up to small groups at a time as we continue to test features and gather feedback. We will let you know when we have released the Rula mobile app to a wider audience.
What the app is for
Your therapy happens in your sessions with your provider. The app is designed to support that work in between appointments: making it easier for you to access resources, manage appointments, and your account details on the go. In addition, you can complete common administrative tasks you’re used to completing in the Rula patient portal, like viewing billing/insurance info, or messaging your provider. For Rula adults over eighteen, we even have new features to support and complement your care between sessions.
Signing in and staying notified
For those invited to experience the app before we release it to all patients, the link to download the app will be emailed to the address on file with Rula. This link will bring you to an app store page to download the Rula - Patient App, with the above purple app icon.
When you open the app, you'll sign in with your email, Google, or Apple account - the same way you would with the Rula patient portal!
The first time you sign in, you'll be asked whether you'd like to turn on push notifications. Turning these on is a simple way to stay connected, so you don't miss a message from your provider or a reminder before your next session. You can always change this later in your Account settings.
Your Home screen
The home screen is the first thing you'll see when you open the app, and it's organized to put the most relevant features front and center:
Your next session appears at the top, so you always know when your next appointment is and can tap in for details. When a session is coming up soon, this is also where you'll find any quick tasks to do beforehand.
A care focus area highlights what's most useful right now — like a summary from your last session, or a practice your therapist suggested.
Your toolkit, seen when you scroll further down the screen, gathers the resources you've saved for later (and any your therapist has shared with you), so they're easy to return to whenever you want them.
Finding your way around
A navigation bar at the bottom of the screen lets you move between the main areas of the app:
Home - Easy access to your home screen
Thread - An AI-powered conversational tool
Practice - Where you can access your resource library
Sessions - See your upcoming and past appointments plus manage scheduling
At the top right of the Home screen you can reach your Messages with your provider by clicking the envelope button or see your Account Settings by clicking the person icon. Here you'll find your profile, care team, billing and insurance details, notification settings, a link to this help center, and more.
The features that support your care between sessions
The app includes a few features designed to help you get more out of therapy between sessions. Each has its own help center article that provides a walk through of the feature and helpful FAQs, such as who can access these features in the mobile app.
- Session summaries — After a session, your provider may share a summary of the key things to carry forward, so you can revisit what you and your therapist talked about until your next appointment. Here they may also recommend resources to use between sessions.
- Resource library — A collection of exercises and articles, created in partnership with mental health experts, that you can explore on your own or use when your therapist recommends them.
- Session topics — A space to share agenda topics before your next therapy appointment, so your time together stays focused on what matters to you.
- Thread — An AI-powered conversational tool for the moments that come up between sessions, where you can reflect, practice coping skills, and note topics for your next session.
FAQ
Which devices is the Rula mobile app compatible with?
The app can be downloaded and used on iPhone and Android devices.

No, the app is currently available only to a small group of patients 18+ as we continue to work on improvements. We plan to make the app available to all patients later this year.
Can I use the mobile app for psychiatry appointment management?
Yes! While features such as session summaries or session topics are not available for your psych appointments yet, you can manage your psych appointments through the Rula patient app.
What kinds of notifications will the app send me?
The Rula mobile app will send helpful reminders to prepare for your next session, let you know when a session summary is available, when your provider messages you, or to complete your session topics before your next therapy appointment. You will also get a notification when your session is about to begin.
You can always turn the notifications off in your Account settings if you wish.
Can I do everything in the app that I can do in the Rula patient portal?
You can complete almost every task in the app that you can in the portal. The exception is if you need to update or edit insurance information - you will be linked into the Rula patient portal to complete this action.
I am receiving an error when I try to log into the app. What do I do?
First, make sure you have been invited to the app. Only a select group of patients have been invited to use the app at this time. Next, make sure you have downloaded the correct app. Providers also have a Rula app and we want to make sure you are utilizing the correct app!
If you should have access, have downloaded the correct app, and are still not able to login you can use the help center chat to connect with a Rula support agent for assistance.
